Lianne Dalziel graduated with a law degree from Canterbury University, before becoming involved in the union movement. From 1990 she was a Labour MP for two decades, holding a range of portfolios in the fifth Labour government, including immigration, senior citizens and ACC. She was elected mayor of Christchurch in 2014.
