Christchurch audiences get the chance to tune into the extraordinary mind and talent of the 2013 Man Booker Prize winner, Eleanor Catton, in the beautiful setting of the city’s Transitional Cathedral.
Her first novel, The Rehearsal, published in 2008, won her critical acclaim, but it was The Luminaries, set on the West Coast goldfields in the 1860s, and weaving a complex and exquisitely patterned network out of the fates and fortunes of 12 local men, that propelled her to international fame last year, when she became the youngest ever winner of the world’s most prestigious fiction award. Eleanor Catton talks to writer Kate de Goldi about writing, fame, the West Coast and much more.
